The question is very broad.. success in what? career..family.. lovelife, business.. where? Success in one aspect of your life could be failure in another so it is best to define and establish the parameters.
However, in general, success can be gauged with the same yardstick we use to measure failure.

I would judge success simply on the basis of the ratio of what the project has accomplished versus what the project was supposed to accomplish....the closer to the number 1 that ratio is, the more successful it is.

Meeting desired objectives in time with efficient use of all the resources.
Measurement of success differs, it depends upon several factors such as context , situation , desired outcome etc. Sometimes quantitative tools are used, sometimes qualitative tools are used, sometimes both the tools are used together.
All are successful in life if they get level playing field.
