With all due respect to previous posters, I've taught at several colleges and been on admissions committees. They will not likely pick and choose sections the way you suggest, unless they are looking for ways to accept as many people as possible, in which case your scores are not very important (unless they're particularly low). If they DO pick and choose, they likely state this at their website somewhere, so get surfin' to find out!

Remember, though, that standardized tests are not the end-all to what you know and what you can do. Just get into a decent school and work from there; this test isn't going to determine your life! Good luck.

yes this is correct. they do not average your sat scores. there are three sections (now) as you probably know and they will take the highest score in each section and add them all together, even if your highest scores in each section were from different testings. for example if you got a 600,700, then 800 on math they would take the 800, and likewise if on the same tests respectively you went 800, 700, 600 in english, they would still take the 1st score in english, hence giving you a 1600 in both sections overall, even though the highest you got on each individual test was 1400. trust me...i would know about this stuff...im going into college next year and applied to 17 schools this year, ivies and all.

It depends on the schools you are applying to. For example, UCs take your best set, not the highest score of writing from one test, math from one, verbal from another, then combine them. Well, unless they change it. Some private colleges may do it like that, though.

Depends on the college. Call their admissions office and ask.
