I got a tattoo back in 1993. I never felt it going on (it was as if someone was drawing on me with a pen). It was only a black outline, but it was enough to cause major problems. Right after I got it done my leg got ice cold & then really hot. My body soon followed. When I looked up at everyone, they all looked like cartoon characters. I couldn't breath & my whole body went numb. I went home to sleep it off but had trouble sleeping as my whole body felt as if it were being pulled down through the mattress. I woke up the next morning & couldn't move my body at all. It was as if I was paralyzed. Finally after a half hour I was able to get moving to get out of bed. I tried to sleep it off thinking I would feel better, but every time I woke up, I could not move all over agian. Finally I went to the emergency room. They could not figure out what was wrong & they gave me some type of shot (I think it was for an allergic reaction). I felt alittle better but it would be another 7 months before my body got back to some type of normal. I had the tattoo removed by a dermatologist because to look at it brought really bad memories of that night. My friend told me some years later that I had a severe allergic reaction to the ink, that he had read an article when he was at his tattoo place about those types of symptoms & how they can be fatal if not treated. So yes, people can have serious side effects from getting a tattoo. I thank God I lived to be able to tell someone else so that perhaps I can save someone's life. I guess just do your research before you do it.

I personally heal like a champ, but My friend had a reaction to a tattoo, it just would not heal. It was pussing and scabbing over. by the time it had healed so much ink was missing it was blotchy and looked terrible. She went back to the parlor who gave it to her and they said it was because she wasnt taking care of it with the cream they provided. But she was!! Maybe it was a reaction to the cream they gave her and not to the ink used...no idea. they did end up touching up the tattoo for her at a lower price.

I have not but have had friends with serious infections, enough to warrant hospital stays. You could concievably be allergic to anything.
