Class struggle has changed history many times, many places. The Bolshevik uprising in Russia was a big one. It espoused communism, but, unfortunately
, it eventually deteriorated into totalitarianism. Even so, the serfs ended up far better off than they had been although not in a free state.

Martin Luther led a class struggle against the Church in Rome and the Holy Roman Empire. This led to more freedom from oppression as dealt out by a clergy. Up to his time, the central and western countries of Europe were virtual theocracies.

The French revolution was a hugely class struggle which was followed almost immediately be Napoleon who finished it be curbing the powers of the remaining aristocracy and the church.

We need a good class struggle in this country because there is so much of a gap between the rich and poor here, that it is actually affecting the cost of health care, criminal justice and this country's security. In Toronto, there were dozens and dozens of shootings taking place ... and where did the shooters live? They all lived in neighbourhoods identified by Toronto's United Way's study called "Poverty by Postal Code". They lived in Toronto's poorest neighbourhoods. One has to wonder about the linkage between social class and security and cost issues; it hasn't been closely studied because those who control the money for such studies don't want to admit that something drastic has to be done to improve the circumstances of Canada's poor.
