Its the same as a woman calling another woman *****. we can call each other that because when we say it it means something different. Not a negative connotation. Same as african americans calling each other the "n" word. when they say it to each other it means something different.
When someone besides a girlfriend calls me a ***** then i tend to get pretty PO'd. i imagine that the word you speak of is the same way. Becuase how you wnat to use it is in a negative derogatory way. That's why. So now you know and you should not want to use that word again... cause when you do it shows how racist and unintelligent you are. (Not you per se... you in general.)

When African Americans use the N word it means an entirely different thing than if a person of another race would use it. There is a fine line between a N***A and a N****R. The first word being the term most oftenly used by youth today, it bonds them, but if a person of another race comes in, they usually mess up and place emphasis on the letter R. In my opinion it is dumb all around to say the word in the first place-- but when the emphasis is placed on the letter A- it means more of homey, friend, buddy, pal, etc. When emphasis is on the R, it takes on a racist undertone.
Just like those who call biracial children Mulatto- that is inappropriate in the fact that is is a racist term- meaning mule. I would not appreciate it if anyone called ither myself or my children that.
In all fairness, if you are concerned about the word, just never use it. Or if you are bent on using it, consult with those around you to see if it would be ok, due to the fact that most people would stop and take high offense to it.
Hey also- its like the same as some caucasian people find it appropriate to call each other rednecks (which i find disgusting too) and they feel its ok- its just the same!
Have a great day!

Only silly Black people call each other N!gger. Young Blacks who don't know any better also do so. Once you've been face to face with the sick vision of a true Raciest you would never call another Black person N!gger. Just like a Jewish person would call another Jewish person a Jew, but if a Nazi was to say the same word you could sense the hatred.

When a black guy says it....it doesn't not mean the same thing When other races say it, they mean something derogatory and ugly. When a black person it means something like a friend, comrade that sort of thing. In the dictionary ****** means an ignorant person, a person lacking knowledge. So really it could be about anyone. It's just a culture thing like I am sure you have some cultures things about you that are not privy to other cultures. We all do. So don't get hung up on it and whatever you do please don't use the word unless you know how to fight. I hope that shed some light for you.

I don't know what the F uck Caser is trying to say but he is a typical black person that makes racist remarks and expects others to just let it go because of his ignorance. A N Igga is still a n igger and you cant just flip(whatever the f that is supposed to mean) a word and not have it mean the same. If blacks want to change racist behavior they need to change the way they portray themselves and have some self esteem and quit calling each other ******* and getting upset when other people call them the same thing. You don't see the Latinos going around calling themselves and each others spick or the whites calling each other a cracker but the blacks (not African Americans) think it is ok to use that term then get pissed when some one else does it

b/c it's become a cultural thing. when i was coming up i got the hell beat out of me if i said NI**a in front of my grandparents or in their house.
but b/c my parents we're young cats during the blaxploitation era they used it frequently to identify with the times. the term Ni**a became associated with big poufy afros,bell-bottoms,funk music, and the black fist.
since then black culture has made it acceptable for US to refer to another as such. some blacks agree with it,however some are like my grandparents. i support my brothers and sisters on the different sides they take on this matter, however i'm not losing any sleep over it. " N**ga you crazy",is often used playfully by both men and women.
make no mistake. if you come around blacks thinking you are entitled to use that word you'll probably end up worst than i did when i said N**ga in front of my grandparents.

i dont' like to hear the word in any context and cannot understand how such a derogatory word has become a word used to describe oneself or a way to greet some one. the origin of the word, and the history of its use, in my mind, would be enough to have its use curbed. i've heard other cultures use the word to greet each other as well. what's up with that? if black parents would pay more attention to their history, culture and heritage, taught their children, reprimanded them for using any offensive words, and demanded that the entertainment industry clean up its act, the use of this offensive word could be eliminated.

Because we don't say n!gger we say n!gga we took the word and flipped it. Hell even white dudes use the word on each other. But they should be calling each other crack@s instead. Take the word and flip it.

Say it to a black guy and you will feel more than uncomfortable...lol
Personally....I hate the word. Just another word invented by a racist white man to keep the black man "in his place." ...And I'm a white guy !! A word that one wishes could be "undone"

i agree with most of these other answers... but sometimes a word with a usually negative connotation is changed by society or the community it is connected to into something that doesn't mean the same thing. i think it's a way of neutralizing the word.
many minorities have done this with plenty of words associated to them.
