Get yard cats. I've always heard that cats keep snakes out of the yard. I live next to a swamp in lower southern SC and I have yet to see a snake. We have two tom-cats that roam the yard as well as several of our neighbors' cats. Snakes are dangerous to dogs.

Get about 3-4 boxes of mothballs , depending on size of yard , You can find them at Wal-Mart , etc. Sprinkle them at the perimeter of your yard , or where you see snakes , or where you think they would come through. I have snakes all the time during summer , and i use mothballs around my house and sheds and they don't come around those areas.
