mymadski History does repeat itself. I do hope that when or if you grow up you will remember the 270 + marines and how they died in their beds because of these people.

It is a very sad day for this country. Too many of you just don't understand the dynamics involved here. If Israel is gone then the terrorists will target other countries, includin us and if you think that because we have superior weapons we will win think again. We have superior weapons in Iraq and that's not doing much good is it. Do you want to fight the terrorists in their country or in ours. Because that may be the only choice we will have.

A good point ! 241 servicemen (Marines)sent as peacekeepers died in barracks at the airport in Beirut, Lebanon.by a truck bomb. It was determined this was Hezbollah. The marines did NOTHING to provoke the attack.Their mission was to secure the airport & surrounding area in order to keep supplies coming in to the civil war torn city. They were also severely under equipped for any kind of combat which made them an easy target for terrorists. This was also the biggest blunder of the Reagan Presidency.

The majority of posters here were not so much as a fertilized egg in 1983.

241 Marines died during the Hezbollah attack on the Marine base. Since then, a number of UN resolutions have called for their disarmament. It is clear that Hezbollah is a proxy for Iranian and Syrian aggression, and should be dealt with.

I do feel sympathy for the Lebanese, they have suffered through much, and it is unfortunate that their government did nothing to control Hezbollah. Much of this can be attributed to Syrian influence (occupation, really).

Two wrongs don't make it right:

A little History for you:-

Part of Palestine was given to the Jewish people after WW2, that was a big mistake because the Israelis then proceeded to throw out the Palestinians, the Palestinians have never accepted this, they have been terrorized by Israel, and now they fight with the only tools they have, throwing stones, and blowing themselves up, and setting off the occasional rocket.

The USA Supports the many atrocities commited by Israel:-
http://www.action-for-un-renewal.org.uk/pages/isreal_un_resolutions.htm

and the American people are blissfully unaware that $90 Billion of their taxes has been given to Israel to aid it's "War":-

http://www.vestedowl.com/counterpoint_results.htm

Israel has a lot of influence worldwide so only one side of the story is usually reported.

Recently Israel has siege Gaza, denying Palestinians electricity, destroying infrastructure, and making it a virtual prison,
As usual the Palestinians have fought against this oppression, and a group of them managed to capture an Israeli soldier.
The Israelis then proceeded to escalate their siege, and killing of Palestinians who had nothing to do with the Capture of the Israeli soldier, world leaders said nothing.
Only Hezbollah would stand up for the Palestinians, and they captured two Israeli soldiers. Then Israel decided to punish the whole of Lebanon, so now Hezbollah try to kill Israelis, and Israelis try to kill Lebanese.

The USA responce had been to blame Iran, and Syria, and it makes me wonder if this was their recent agenda all along - to create an excuse to attack another country.

I do not understand your logic. The United States was at war in war in Lebanon supporting Israel, and the marine base was a legitimate military target. Just because the United States claims the bombing of the base to be a terrorist act, doesn't mean it is a terrorist act. The 9/11 bombing in New York was a terrorist act, the Oklahoma building bombing was a terrorist act, the New York Twin Towers bombing in the 90's was a terrorist act. But the marine base was a military base, not a civilian target. Yes, military personnel were killed, but that's the price of war when one engages in it. It is not against international law to kill military personnel during war, but it is against the international law to kill civilians during war time.

I remember the Hezbollah terrorists sending in a suicide bomber to blow up Marine barracks in 1983, or whenever it was. Our Marines were there to prevent the unfolding civil war. Our role as peacekeepers was not going to be tolerated by Hezbollah. They saw it as an opportunity to kill Americans (always the key goal of those evil nut jobs) and prevent a peaceful solution. All these people want to do is kill you, even you liberals who think this is all somehow the fault of the US and Israel.

Israel, at the strong urging of the US, unilaterally pulled out of Gaza to give the Palestinians a place to call their own. Israeli citizens were forced to evacuate at gunpoint. Think about it. This was exactly what the propogandists like Noam Chomsky and Hamas said was needed for peace in the region - give the Palestinians a homeland. So Israel did it. The very first thing that happens is renewed terror attacks on Israel. Hamas uses the newly gained territory in Gaza to launch rockets daily into Israel. The newly elected Hamas government refuses to back down from its political commitment to the destruction of the state of Israel. So, all of you apologists for the terrorist view, you got what you said you wanted - a place for the Palestinians to call their own. You have gotten every opportunity to live peacefully with your neighbor. Then it turns out that you were lying. You just said that you wanted your own homeland - actually, that is all the majority of Palestinians want. But you hard core bitter-enders want nothing less than the destruction of Israel. I suppose you'll take that as a down payment on the destruction of the US.

The world isn't buying it this time. There will always be disagreements among people - we are inherently selfish as a race. But civilized people learn to get along and to bury the past in the past. We compromise extreme positions in order to give peace a chance.

The true fault of the US is that we are committed to a world where all governments provide and protect freedom for their people, and where cooperation and opportunity are available to all nations that play by basic rules of fairness. Those goals are antithetical to the dictatorial regimes across the world. The influence of the west is irresistable to their people. How many places in the world is it a crime to watch World Cup football, or to watch a movie produced in Hollywood, or to listen to music that is produced in the US? Only in those places that sponsor terrorism ... those righteous religious zealots use football stadiums for public executions. They use relgion to oppress their people. So why would anyone blame Israel or the US where we bend over backwards to protect the relgious rights of all faiths? Oh ... we're an easy target and protect freedom of speech. You can say whatever you want and we will send Marines in to defend your right to say it.

I love our system of freedom. Our enemies are taking advantage of our open society and freedom of speech to engineer a propoganda war. Too many Americans are wrapped up in a desire for isolation from the world - or believe that somehow terrorism results from a huge misunderstanding, like playground fights in school. Others in the world are just saying anything they can to bash the US. It is fun, cheap and easy ... and doesn't give you cavities in your teeth, isn't fattening and is like a harmless parlor game. Or so it seems.

Hezbollah are fanatics, that is undeniable. However, they fight for a good cause: they fight for the unity of their country, they fight to keep Lebanon free of invaders, and that is exactly what they did when they kicked the Israelis out of Lebanon. They are conservatives, successful ones too, and that's why Israel wants to destroy them; until annihilated, they will continue to represent a great threat to Israel (who want to have full control of the Middle East).

What was the US response to that? Did we nuke them? Did we bomb the crap out of innocent people?

This isn't justice this is madness!
Civilized country's action-
Roadside bomb kills ten US troops...is it OK for our troops to indiscriminately kill the first 100 people they see?
