Why do people think it's ok to bomb Lebanon? Their government did not do anything. We are holding them responsible for the actions of extremists that they have no control over.

If you think that we should hold them accountable...then please let us know if you feel that the US government was responsible for the actions of Timothy McVeigh - after all - he was a member of an extremist group in the US. The US allowed that group to exist and operate (thereby harboring terrorists). Do you think we should've punished the government for his actions?

The US is not holding anyone accountable. Israel is bombing Lebanon because Hezbollah is hiding/based there. They believe they're chasing/prosecuting criminals that have crossed the border and have committed crimes (kidnappings) in Israel.

Lebanon is a fragile country. The Hezbollah forces have significant control of the government and have been able to avoid prosecution there because of that. In addition, Syria has just pulled out so Lebanon is really like the France of the eastern Med. - everyone's doormat. The bombing of the highways and roads and the naval blockade has been to keep Hezbollah from sneaking the kidnapped soldiers out of the country.

Timothy McVeigh at least didn't blow up a building in Mexico or Canada. Those countries would then have every right to consider that an act of intrusion. The feds would have shut him down before the attacks if they were on the ball. Unfortunately, they missed and he was able to carry that attack out.

Good answers from a few of you ... Israel is going after Hezbollah, not Lebanon. Hezbollah effectively controls parts of the country of Lebanon. The fragile government there is powerless to stop Hezbollah, just as the fragile government of Iraq would be powerless to stop the terrorists there if the US weren't there.

It is hard to believe that civilized people will defend Hezbollah. They want nothing less than the destruction of Israel. For what purpose? Israel gave up Gaza unilaterally, in response to you people who say Israel is an occupying force and Hamas and Hezbollah are freedom fighters. Ok, you got a chance to step up and give peace a chance. Instead, you use Gaza as a launching site for daily rocket fussilades and more terrorist attacks. I hope Israel is able to wipe out all of Hezbollah in the short time that the world will give it to continue this offensive. Hezbollah, Hamas, and all the dictatorial regimes that fund them are not looking for a peaceful solution. Power and violence is all the terrorists crave. Peace isn't possible while they have an opportunity to kill innocents. Iran and Syria support them because the terrorists are keeping the US and the west occupied. Otherwise, you would see democracy spread to Iran then the rest of the middle east. That is the last thing the ruling dictators in those places want.

By eliminating Hezbollah, Lebanon will have a chance to make peaceful democracy work. A few decades ago, Beirut was a wonderful cosmopolitan city that was open to the world. Today, the terrorists use Lebanon as a launching pad.

The Lebanese government is particularly at fault in this conflict. They have been asked for years to do something about Hezbollah and they refused to do so. Hezbollah is being controlled by Syria and Iran. Israel did not do nothing wrong to start this conflict. They only attacked Lebanon after Hezbollah went into Israel and attached them. The Lebanon government is in deed at fault for this situation.

The land that Israel owns now has always been Jewish. The Romans ran them out back in BC and then the Arabs took over the land. Back in the 1800's Palestine started selling the Land back to the Jewish. I am still a little not sure about many things that deal with the land in the middle east but from all the history i have looked at this is what i have came across.

Israel has the right to defend themselves from the terrorist of Hamas and Hezbollah.

In May 2000, more than 22 years after United Nations Security Counsel Resolution 425 was passed, Israel withdrew its troops from southern Lebanon. Prior to the withdrawal, opposition voices inside Israel were putting high pressure on the Israeli government to withdraw from Lebanon as they saw no valid reason for staying there and having to sustain the Lebanese resistance attacks.

Lebanon had not lived up to its end of the Resolution which called for the Leabonese gonernment to assert its control over the southern region.Leabonon was called on by UN Resolution 1391 of 2002 and urged by UN Resolution 1496 of 2003 to do so.
As a result of Lebanons inability to assert control of the region, Hezbollah, funded by Iran holds de facto sovereignty over much of South Lebanon.Since Israels withdraw attacks have from time to time come from southern Lebanon.Hezbollah in attempting to one up Hamas, kidnapped and killed Israeli soilders. The Lebonese government has not addresed the issue ,nor will they as evidenced by 22 years of history on the issue, so the Israelis did it for them

On Tim Mcveigh

Tim Mcveigh was an oddity,in that while there are goups with extreme views in this country, they rarely seek to subvert our government through such violent methods.Where as, entire regions and radical governments exisist throughout the world with numbers in the thousands that if given the chance would do much worse.I honestly don't see how you could in good consience make any comparison .However the question was asked with an obvious bias so that may explain a little

Oh my goodness! THE TWISTS!

Let's compare:
A) Lebanon gives Hezbolah a SEAT on their government!
B) United States prosecutes and jails McVeigh and his group that commit crimes and terrorism.

A) Lebanon hides terrrorists in their midst and denies other governments access to arrest them, letting them hide like children amongst the country's skirts.
B) U.S.A. actively roots them out and turns them over to the country asking.

A) Lebanese people cheer in the streets at terrorist acts!
B) U.S. people get upset at an terrorist acts and condemn them all. We are even hard on our own government when we aren't sure they are doing the right thing!

You have no conception of how corrupt Lebanon really is.

They need to stop hiding terrorists. They can't play the shell game. we see through it now. So does most of the world.

GIVE THE SOLDIERS BACK! Then Israel will go away. And the U.S. will help move them back.

I have to say that people around the world usually mix between terrorism, which kills the innocents, and between the liberation movements, who fight against occupation. the Israelis are occupiers, they occupy Palestine, part of Lebanon and part of Syria, therefore people in these countries are fighting against Israel (the occupation) and they have the right to seek their freedom.
i agree that Timothy McVeigh was a member of an extremist group in the US, but Hezbollah are no terrorists they are defending their country... they are not killing Innocent people, they are fighting the Israeli occupation, they never bomb US or any other country! they only want to kick the Israelis out of their country... and the government in Lebanon is not the one to be blamed for Hezbollah's actions!

You can't make a good comparison with Timothy McVeigh. He didn't have several military bases in the USA or an army or offices in Washington DC. It was government agents who captured him. He didn't attack another nation from within our border.

If we allowed a LARGE GROUP of illegal immigrants to develop a terrorist army and to stand on our side and shoot rockets into Canada, that would be a more equivalent comparison. As you well know, we would never allow that to happen.

Last I heard, the USA hadn't invaded Lebanon. Do you believe we should be attacking our allies of many years to keep them from defending their own borders? Israel gets terrorist attacks from their terrorist neighbors on a regular basis. You would be scared to walk down the street if you lived there. How can you possibly have a problem with those people defending their own country from terrorists?

Lebanon is responsible because the government gives tacit approval to the Hezbollah animals to operate there
They were told to keep them out....
They didnt
They were told what would happen if they didnt keep them out
Now they pay for the error of their ways.
And in case youre not paying attention
Timothy mc veigh did not attack another country.
We harbor all kinds of criminals in this country.
That is until theyre caught
Lebanon harbors them
And they commit acts of war agaionst other countries, including the USA
Say goodnight Lebanon
Maybe when its rebuilt theyll have a goverment run by people instead of terrorists.

I dont think Lebanon is responsible. Nasralla is responsible and he is the main reason. I am very sad and upset! People there are dying... all civilians, kids, and innocent people. It is so wrong.. See this is how I see it, Iran is running out of time and in order for it to deviate attention away from it, they ignited Hezbollah to start problems so people will start worrying about it and forget for a while about Iran!!!! The Israeli act on Lebanon is NOT an act against war or terror... Its against economical and social interest of the country. This is their high season, and they are depending on tourism... it is so wrong to destroy a country's economy like that!!!! I am hating whats going on and praying for things to go back to normal.

People beleive the bullshit from the Jewish media.

A little History for you:-

Part of Palestine was given to the Jewish people after WW2, that was a big mistake because the Israelis then proceeded to throw out the Palestinians, the Palestinians have never accepted this, they have been terrorized by Israel, and now they fight with the only tools they have, throwing stones, and blowing themselves up, and setting off the occasional rocket.

The USA Supports the many atrocities commited by Israel:-
http://www.action-for-un-renewal.org.uk/pages/isreal_un_resolutions.htm

and the American people are blissfully unaware that $90 Billion of their taxes has been given to Israel to aid it's "War":-

http://www.vestedowl.com/counterpoint_results.htm

Israel has a lot of influence worldwide so only one side of the story is usually reported.

Recently Israel has siege Gaza, denying Palestinians electricity, destroying infrastructure, and making it a virtual prison,
As usual the Palestinians have fought against this oppression, and a group of them managed to capture an Israeli soldier.
The Israelis then proceeded to escalate their siege, and killing of Palestinians who had nothing to do with the Capture of the Israeli soldier, world leaders said nothing.
Only Hezbollah would stand up for the Palestinians, and they captured two Israeli soldiers. Then Israel decided to punish the whole of Lebanon, so now Hezbollah try to kill Israelis, and Israelis try to kill Lebanese.

The USA responce had been to blame Iran, and Syria, and it makes me wonder if this was their recent agenda all along - to create an excuse to attack another country.
