Any place will take cash. You will need a debit or a credit card though for them to take a reservation. They'll also want to keep the card on file for "incidentals". Here's how it works. You make a reservation with a card over the phone, internet, whatever. At check out time you simply tell them you do not want to apply any charges to the card..you want to pay cash. They'll take your cash. Now..if you're traveling and just happen along into some place on the roadside...maybe a chain..maybe not..most will take cash. (Motels) Hotels tend to be a little more upscale and therefore anal.
Also..be forewarned..when you start plopping down wads of cash for rentals, rooms, etc. you're flagged as a potential "problem child" ie subversive, terrorist, etc. I've traveled all over and have paid cash, charged, even bartered (spent a few days welding in a guys shop to pay for a repair to my jeep -this was in 1976 in Cowhampshire). Post 911 I have raised an eyebrow or two and have even had my door knocked on a few times because I paid cash. Everything worked out fine. A parting thought..traveling with wads of money..unless you have so many wads you have a big lug named Hans who is 6'4" , weighs 260 and packs heat...is not a good plan. Also...like I mentioned..cash will raise an eyebrow.
Also..as I mentioned..paying cash raises an eyebrow with law enforcement..that's not just my theory. Several publications that profile terrorists list "paying cash for services, cars, etc." as a big tip off.
So...travel safe, pay cash with discretion.

Yes Most Hotels will accept Cash payments...But some will ask for a like 100-200 cash deposit to hold In case of phone calls OR damage to the room...The best thing is to call the motel/Hotel and ask on the policys..As far as Holding a room..Either u have to put a C/C to hold it ..OR send then the first nights deposit

Everybody takes cash but if you need to reserve a room you will need a credit card. If you hold a room with a credit card and want to pay with cash then when you check out make sure and tell them .

It is usually at the discretion of the Hotel/Motel(I am Owner of a Travel Agency). But as you probably already know, either a credit card or a Bank debit card is their preferred method of payment.

We travel often and always have the room booked with our credit card. But when actually checking in, we will periodically tell them we want to pay for the room in cash. We've never had a problem.

You have to reserve or register with a credit card but you can request to pay with cash at checkout time.

If they won't, I WILL!
Yes, they will, but if you have to make advance reservations, that requires a credit card.
Walk-ins can pay cash.
