most of the time it is heat related make sure all the fans are working and if you have space for more fans put them in. the next biggest failure is the power supply, most computer stores will test it free other wise a power supply tester is like $10 if it is more than that you need to check memory, cpu, which are best left to someone with more experience

usually when a computer shuts down without notice it is due to a lack of power. The power supply might be overloaded. A computer power supply is only good for a certain amount of power usually around 300 watts. If you have added hardware such as a new power hungry video card or other bells and whistles on a card your computer power supply might not have enough juice.

I need more info such as make and model and hardware configuration.

A tip when building or buying a new system is to get a power supply with room for growth.... say 500 watts.. Take a video card with a forced convection system that draws 2 amps, and runs on the usual 12 VDC. According to Ohms Law Power (watts) = Current (amps) * Voltage (Volts) which would be 24 watts for just the vid card alone... then add in the sound card, NIC, MoBo, USB devices (5 VDC), HD's, CDROMs, DVDs you may be pushing the limits.

May be heat. Or did someone set it to hibernate with a very short time setting?

Is your fan running? Turn power off and look inside to see if boards are really dirty. Check to see if fan blades are clean too.

I clean mine every so often to keep the heat down. I use a vacuum cleaner with the brush attachment and also a small paint brush to get into the tight places. Do not use any liquids on any of the boards.. P4s do run hotter.

My computer was doing the same thing. The fan was stopped up and my computer was overheating. Try cleaning the fan, but ultimately I had to purchase a new computer.

You probably have a virus on your computer or you have too many files on your computer.

Firstly check if there is a virus on your computer, and if there is get rid of IT!

If there isn't, check the memory of your computer and see if its low?!?! if it is, then i advise you to get rid of some of your files, to free up more disk space, so your computer can run better!

I'd have to say either your power went out, you kicked the power cord. Or your computer has a virus.

Or maybe virtual memory is very low.
