More than the big things most times. Little would be a thank-you, a hug, a touch of the hand, or a pat on the back. Kind words, and kind thoughts. Enough said.

This is a great question, and my personal answer is that I really think the little things are the most important of all.

The little things are small courtesies you can do anytime. One of the biggest little things you can do is learn someone's name and then remember it!!!

Other little things are remembering dates--not just the good ones lke birthdays. Try to remember the anniversaries of trials and deaths that your friends have gone through. They may be sad because a year has passed since a losss and be re-experiencing the pain --it really helps them to know someone cares.

Another little thing is the way we care for the planet --take only one napkin at the fast food place, recycle your trash, get some canvas bags to use for shopping. These are all little things, but if enough people do them, we can have an impact.

Another big little thing: envision peace. once a day, every day.

And be grateful...thank people...thank the earth...thank God, the Universe, your Higher Power...

It is really only through the little things that we can make the world better.

I can think of an example where they do. And it is specific. If a person keeps doing little things (that are rude or annoying or mean) that in and of themselves are not really significant but when added together amount to the person being a Hitler well it is time to slay the dragon!

Also the little things you like and love matter. Some of my little loves exemplified:

Elves
Plants
Herbs
Trappiste Beers like Chimay
Books by certain authors
Songs
Knives that I collect
pebbles and stones
freshly picked chantarelle mushrooms
all babies and young children
acts of sincerity

OH YES........DEFINATELY.
Over a period of time, it can gain you a little more respect from others.
By little things I mean, letting someone merge in front of you in traffic or letting someone go ahead of you in a long line when you only have a few items...or paying the few cents difference at the register when someone doesn't want to break another coin or dollar, mailing a card, coming over or calling JUST to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY, going by to visit an old person who doesn't get out much or get many visitors, taking time out to treat someone to lunch(someone who's alone or doesn't have many friends or associates) Having a warm conversation with someone that you THOUGHT didn't like you.

They do if you are a microbiologist. My wife and I established the ground work for "little things" years ago. She handles the little things like what car we should buy, where we should live and where the kids should go to school, and I handle the big things, like world hunger, world peace and nuclear disarmament. So far the arrangement has worked well. Although, those with small minds might take exception to it.

Well it's alright to be little bitty
Little hometown or a big ol' city
Might as well share, might as well smile
life goes on for a little bitty while *

Good little...money back on taxes, tickets to Ted Nugent, air conditioner, another Eagles reunion and a Arby's Beef and Cheddar.

The little things,
little things they always hang around
the little things
little things they try to break me down
the little things
little things they just wont go away
the littles things
little things made me who i am today **

Bad little...losing my car keys, losing my car, forgetting my password, Taylor Hicks winning American Idol, being picked last for sports and not having my phone calls returned.

Well it's alright to be little bitty
Little hometown or a big ol' city
Might as well share, might as well smile
life goes on for a little bitty while *

Yes, sometimes they do.

I would define this as a little thing:

I do all the cooking at home and my husband appreciates it completely. On occasion, he has surprised me by ordering my favorite take-out meal to give me a break.

Yes. If they are in the right place. A smile, a kiss, a good word mean a lot.

yes they do, holding a door for someone or carrying bags for someone or even just visiting with an elder... those things are very important and quite little.
