I work in a small but busy restaurant in Minneapolis Minnesota, we have had an issue with people making reservations on the patio so that they can bring their dogs. We have no rule and the staff is split. Dogs or no dogs?

Why don't you find out if there is an applicable ordinance in your municipality for starters. If it's not prohibited, your restaurant is free to make its own policy.

The law is that it is up to the owner. Post a "No Dogs Allowed" sign or "Dogs Allowed on Patio Only" sign. Here's an idea of the month, if you want to cater to the dog-bringing-patrons, offer on the menu water for the dogs and have the owner buy appropriate-looking doggie bowls and charge $3 to $5. That would increase revenue. Not allowing dogs on the patio will decrease revenue since those patrons who bring their dogs may stop going to the restaurant.

It's up to the owner of the restaurant in most cases, unless for some reason your city does not allow it. I would call city hall and make sure that it okay. It sounds like the patio is bringing in a lot of business for you though, and I would keep it if it were me.

Florida just passed a law that allows pets on patios and out door eating areas.

Properly cleaned hands are just as clean as gloves. In fact, gloves give a false sense of security; they can have the same germs anything else has. Though lettuce and such is often handled with gloves, they are not to be used when cooking over heat, deep frying, etc. because of the danger to the wearer. If you think the worst you have to worry about is a kitchen member's hands at a fast food restaurant, you do not want to learn about food manufacturing.

Contact the local health department. Where I live.....no dogs or critters of any type, except seeing eyed dogs can be allowed in a restuarant, patio or inside. The owner of the restaurant where you work should know. It is a health thing.

Check with the Health Department or whoever it is that has to inspect your restaurant each year for permit renewal. They should know or at least tell you who to ask.

It's up to the restaurant. Talk to your GM. What restaurant? I live nearby.
