This is Perfceftly normal...you have to remember your baby was submerged in water for nine whole months...
dont worry about the peeling skin...and try not to fuss with it because that usually just makes it worse. The best thing is to lighty wipe at it with warm water and a wash cloth. Try to avoid products, the natural approah works best here. My baby was peeling like that too and it was driving me crazy because I felt like she didnt look nice when people were coming over to see her! The more I picked at it and stuff the worse it got....

A lot of babies go through this after they are born. While they are in the womb they have vernix on them (the white stuff) that protects their skin from the amniotic fluid. When they are born their skin has to get used to being dry all the time, baths, etc. Also, it is recommended that newborns only be washed 2-3 times per week because it can dry out their skin. It takes time for the oil glands in a newborn to work properly. Lotion will help, but it will also clear up in another week or 2.

And by the way it really has nothing to do with when they were born. My daughter was born 10 days early and had this, my sons were born within 2 days of their due dates and did not. Each baby is different.

No worries!

My son peeled till he was about a month old.It is totally normal.Babies are first born, they go through a very natural process of peeling skin. Many parents get concerned because they think the skin is peeling because it's dry. It's not. Try to imagine what would happen to their skin if they sat in a bathtub full of water for nine months and then had to adapt to the dry air. Skin peeling right after birth is a natural process, and it doesn't need any special treatment. In terms of washing, it's best to use a very mild soap. Unscented Dove soap works best. It is very mild, which is good because some children have reactions to the perfumes and dyes used in some soap. This will help keep their skin from getting irritated.

My daughter is 1 month old and is just getting over the peeling stage. It is perfectly normal. I would have to put lotion on her several times a day to keep her comfortable. It seems as though the more I bathed her, the more she peeled. So maybe don't give her as much baths. If her head is peeling, it is most likely cradle cap. No need for alarm, but it does seem to itch them. Just wipe off with a wet wash cloth and then brush their head with a baby brush. They really like that. Do it as often as need be.

Baby's skin is often dry, and there may be some peeling.
at birth, your baby's skin may be covered with a waxy coating called vernix. As the vernix comes off and the skin dries, your baby's skin will peel. Babies who are born after their due date may have a large amount of skin peeling. This is normal. Peeling does not mean that your baby's skin is too dry. You do not need to put lotions or oils on your newborn's skin to stop the peeling

The skin that is peeling off needs to peel off. They needed that skin while they were in the womb. I remember my Dr. telling me it had protective coatings on it or somewthing like that. I was told to never add lotion to my sons skin. Of course you have to follow your own instincts. I would put a little A7d on his wrists and ankles (they were getting cracked and I was afraid they'd bleed). Do't worry to much... and go see the Dr. for peace of mind!

According to the Department of Public Health
Peeling:

Your baby's skin may peel during the first 2-4 weeks of life. You may notice peeling especially around the soles of your baby's feet. This is normal. No treatment is needed.

Mine did too. This should get better in a couple of weeks. It's very normal. The peeling seems to be worse in babies born after their due dates. Try not to worry too much about it, unless there is bleeding or scabbing, then call a doc right away.

Keep putting baby lotion on her every time you turn around. I put lotion on my kids at least 20 times a day because of their skin peeling. It don't hurt them

That is just from the baby being inside of your for nine months sitting in water. She will be fine just put some lotion on him or her. It will take a bit to go away, not overnight. That is a very common thing i dont know why people are telling you to take her to a doctor.
