Ok here is some details...i had some ostrich for about a year and a half and i wear them 4-5 days a week to work and they take some pretty hard abuse. anyway, the sole came off and now i need to replace them. however, i have a pair of cow hide brown boots that ive had for going of 4 years now that are still in good shape and taken just as hard a beating. but they are cheaper...but maybe better? what is your opinion...

Bull hide boots wear very well, the hide is so tough. Did you know you can just have your boots resoled? If you can find a place that repairs shoes and boots, that would be much cheaper than buying a whole new pair. You can choose from a leather sole, which is better for riding or neoprene (rubber). Some good brands of cowboy boots that we have found to be long wearing are: Olathe Boots, Justin and Tony Lama. Just be sure the boots you pick out don't have a soft leather upper (such as calf skin) or they will tear easily. Also, request a boot with a steel shank.

Leather. Scuffs cover better than others.
Brands may vary, but most can be re-heeled, half soled, or full.

Best on the market, Luchese, expensive.
Same as above but Luchese has a service for complete restoration, not cheap, but boots start @ $400-500 pair. Exotics?
Hmmm. Pick your poison. $1,000.00 up, way up.
Had a pair if gators stolen, burglar. Now over a grand +

My size is difficult. Luchese fits like a glove.

The least expensive are made in Mexico. Their leather is cheaper. Cattle "open range" among cactus especially. Hides become pocked. US doesn't have that problem for the most part.
I have some Dan Post, not bad.

Of course, all hides are split. Suede comes from splits.
Italy and Spain have the finest Calf and Kid.

I have a pair of Justin lace up ropers that I've had since November of 1999 and they hardly have any damage to them. But ,then again, I don't really wear them that often either. I only wear them when I go out country dancing or on special occassions. By the way, my boots are leather. I hope this helps.

Please mention what you intend to do when you're wearing the boots. If you're doing very little, or simply letting them set in your closet, than virtually any brand will last a very long time. For example, are you actually riding horses or other animals? Will the boots be getting very wet or muddy? There are simply too many factors involved to give a pat answer when absolutely no details are given.

Dark-colored leather boots - Tony Lamas for preference, but Justin works as well. Be sure to keep them oiled or polished.
