Is it really a good thing to have 24 hour businesses or do you think it might have been better in the 1950's when most places were only open between 9- 5 Monday through Fridays so that people had more time to spend at home with their families? Do you think the country would have a lower divorce rate?.

i think it is good for the economy but for the society it is inversely proportional. as the people spend less and less time with their families, the basic unit of society then fall apart, being its basic unit, society and its values degrades. thus, ushering so many problems.

I think the 24 hour society is a great thing. I'm a nurse, working in a hospital where I could be at work from 5:00 in the morning until 8 or 9 at night, and that's if I'm on the day shift. If I'm on nights, I'll come in at 6 in the evening and get off around 8 in the morning. Then I have an hour drive home. So being able to shop for groceries or clothes or anything else I might need whenever I'm available is wonderful. :) I honestly don't see what this has to do with the divorce rate. I've been married for seven years now, and my husband appreciates being able to go to Wal-Mart at 2 a.m. when no one else is there just as much as I do.

yes 24 hour businesses are a good thing. the cost of living is so much higher than in the 1950's that it's not possible for families to survive unless both partners are working.
without "the little woman" home all day to do the grocery shopping and run to the post office, and go to the bank, and go to the department stores to buy the things needed for everyday life, business have to be open on weekends, and late at night, and around the clock.
the divorce rate would be no lower. this is the time we live in, we adapt.

Back in the 50's we didn't have as many stresses on our time as we do today. Personally, I like the convenience of being able to conduct business at all hours, since that's about how much I have to work just to pay my tax, insurance, and heating bills.
