You don't get paid lunch breaks if you work by the hour. You are entitled to 20 minutues every 6 hours, however if you work in a busy retail shop say hairdressers, some just grab something to eat and work on to make the money, it's not healthy but being in beauty therapy for over 15 year, if you mark of time your client in before turns up late and the one after lunch turns up early.

Retail is very different and does not have the structure of schools and offices, but this is why some people decide it is not the profession for them. I am so used to it now and most beauty therapist (in the job over 10 year, rarely eat their lunch, what's the point? you end up just wolfing it down and have mayonaise or the likes smudging your lippy)

Firstly, you have to tell us what country you are in.

In the USA:
You are entitled to two 15 minute breaks and a 1/2 hour lunch. breaks are required to be paid, lunch is not. Although your employer is legally bound to allow you to take a lunch break after 4 hours work. You are not legally obligated to take it (you may be contractually obligated to, based on your employment contract). If you do not take your lunch break, your employer CANNOT take the time off your pay.

Based on the fact that you mention tea breaks, I suspect you are in the UK. I do not know what employment law states, but it is probably stricter than the USA. I am certain that you are entitled to lunch and breaks. I do not know how many and whether they are paid or not.
