How they view personal responsibility.

Democrats believe the government should play a major role in running people's lives and people should come to rely upon these government programs. Social Security, welfare, subsidized housing, tax credits, etc. When it comes to crime Democrats believe the government should go easy on criminals. Criminals are considered to have been brought up "in the system" so the system failed them. Blame the government.

Republicans believe in individuals. Everyone should be accountable for themselves and grow into happy taxpayers. Only rely upon the government for basic services. Republicans do not believe in punishing success and rewarding incompetence. Everyone should pay their fair share. People should take ownership for their own retirement, not rely upon Social Security. Companies are the organizations that distribute money, not welfare lines. Republicans are tough on crime because they consider it a personal choice to opt to commit a crime. Punishments should be severe to deter crime.

Reminds me of this story:

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college.
Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat and was all for distribution of all wealth.
She felt deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, which she expressed openly. One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to more welfare programs and higher taxes on the rich.

In the middle of her heartfelt diatribe, based upon the lectures she had from her far left professors at her school, he stopped her and asked her point blank, how she was doing in school.
She answered rather haughtily, that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain. That she had to study all the time, never had time to go out and party, like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends. All her time was spent studying because she was taking a more difficult curriculum.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend, Mary?"
She replied, "Mary is barely getting by. All she has is barely a 2.0 GPA and all she takes are easy classes and she never studies."
To explain further, she continued emotionally, "And Mary is so very popular on campus, college is a blast, for her!
She goes to all the parties all the time and very often doesn't even show up for classes because she is too hung over."
Her father then asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your 4.0 GPA and give it to your friend who only had a 2.0."

He continued, "That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter, visibly shocked by the father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I worked really hard for mine, I did without and Mary has done little or nothing. She played while I worked real hard!"

The father slowly smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party!"

They are just the opposite end of the same stick, designed to pick differences of opinion on various political and moral issues, and designed to keep your attention diverted. What they do is play this game of power swapping so that nothing gets done and they can blame the other guy while intentionally complicating the issues so that the average joe thinks that a soloution to the problems can't be reached thus allowing the rich to stay in power etc....

Republicans pander to the wealthy (people who make $250,000 per year and up), big business, and idiots that they can whip into frenzies over things like abortion, same-sex marriage and religion.

Democrats pander to the poor and keep them poor.

Take your pick, both parties are corrupt.

Democrats see the world the way they wish it was.
Republicans see the world as it is. That's the simple answer.

Republicans take care of those that make 200k a year and democrats take care of those that make from 100k to 200k a year. Everybody else is ******.

Democrats are turning into socialists. They want to take things away from people who work for them, and distribute them to the ones that don't work.

Republicans believe if you work hard, you should benifit from it.

My grandma always tells me that Democrats look out for everyones interests, and Republicans look out for their own. (she's a republican)
But I am not sure if she is correct

Democrats, GENERALLY, are: for abortion, against guns, for helping the poor and disabled (even if it means raising taxes), for helping the environment, and are liberal - meaning they are tolerant of the beliefs and behaviors of others and are open to new ideas.
Republicans, GENERALLY, are: for guns, against abortion, against stem-cell research, for capital punishment, for helping big businesses and wealthy citizens, against raising taxes, and are conservative - meaning they are only tolerant of the views and behaviors of conservative Christianity (old testament mentality more than Christ's teachings)
