PVC is commonly used for drains, but I've never heard of it for water supply. I don't think it is acceptable for drinking water.

In my area PVC 40 is OK , but I went to the irrigation supplier and used sch 80 w/ primer and # 711 glue. No problems.
Try to avoid the male thread adapters, I have experienced the threads breaking off

yes it is ..schedule forty is like a universal pipe ...just when you use it on the outside bury at least two feet deep ..preferbly put about 4 inches of sand in ditch brfore running pipe ..also use cleaner on each peice before you apply glue allow a few seconds between cleaner and gluing ..this allows for the ecess cleaner to evaporate ...which results in better glue bond ...after you glue pipe twist a quarter of turn before glue sets ..result in better bond which means no leaks
