Galileo CORRECTLY STATED that the Earth ORBITS THE SUN. The Catholic Church did not "correct" him,
but condemned him for heresy, and told him he would burn in Hell. He was recently pardoned.

What a sentance! Totally unreadable but I will do my best,
Galileo used a telescope to see that Juipter had moons so the view of the church that everything went around the earth ( or possibly the sun ) must be wrong.
Who invented the first squash in and out telescope? No idea what you are talking about! All telescopes have fixed focus (infinity).

Actually, Galileo was not the first man to say the Earth goes around the Sun. He was supporting the theory of Copernicus as published in 1543, 21 years before Galileo was born. However the idea that Earth orbits the Sun goes way back, thousands of years back. It does not require a telescope to discover this fact, and Copernicus developed his ideas based on the observations of Tycho, who measured the positions of the planets without the aid of a telescope.

Im not sure I understand the question...
lets pause for the Rare Earth song
http://www.astro.washington.edu/rareearth/aboutthebook.html
now..where was I... oh ..yes...
There are several philosophical mistakes here .
First Gallieo was not arguing abainst a Biblical principal but a particular narrow Copernican view of the Universe and the Catholic church went in an area imposing authority in a manner they later regretted and perhaps now feels intimidated by their past mistake.
Second, rejecting the Copernican principle because the earth is not a physical center is now taken as the earth has no special place in the universe, as Sagan says we are a pale blue dot and no one will even know we are here but Sagan is wrong the earth has a remarkably special place.
The earth may not be the physical center of the solar system, but there is cause to think rejecting the Copernican principle was a mistake held by naturalistic astronomers today saying the earth has no particular place in the universe
The earth is a blue jewel hanging in a special place for life and discovery between two arms of the milky way allowing it to see our galaxy and also look far into the reaches of the universe a place meant for both life and discovery a very special place
Thirsd, in fact some theories worhty of investigation such as Russ Humpreys Starlight and Time put the earth physically near the center of a time dilated gravity well near the center of the univese... definitely worth checking this one and in this view 6 days can go by on earth while time is faster as you move away and millions and billions of years can pass as you move toward the edge.

Galileo did NOT invent the telescope - it had been used in naval warfare and to spot merchant ships at see before Galileos' time. Galileo was the first to USE the telescope for astronomical purposes.

van Leeuwenhoek (17th C) made exceedingly accurate lenses for the compound microscope. But the dutch optician Zaccharias Janssen is credited with making the first compound light microscope in 1600 or thereabouts.
