I'm looking for truly inspirational stories for a project of mine and don't want the people born with a silver spoon in their mouth. I want the real stuff.

See if you can find the story of Jeff Paul. He was living in his brother in law's basement, 2 kids and a wife, some enormous credit card debt, and now he's a millionaire.
Gates isn't really a good example, his dad was a prominent Seattle lawyer, attended private school, went to Harvard etc.
But there are plenty of great stories in the computer world - like the guys who wrote Doom, and the guys who created MySpace, etc.

Most really rich people started with nothing, except the members of royal families.
Consider Bill Gates and all others in the IT industry, Ingvar Kamprad (founder of IKEA).
Perhaps it's best to look at a list of the richest persons in the world - you will quickly be able to sort out those who were born rich, I believe.

Pick up a copy of the book "The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind" by T Harv Eker. Now There is a success story!

Warren Buffett maybe? Lifelong success through a genuine skill of investing. Lives an extremely modest lifestyle, and over course gave the majority of his fortune to charity recently.
