an antique when you are starting out everything is new.
My grandmother gave me a crocheted bedspread i kept all my life. Felt like even after she was gone it gave me roots.

or maybe a tea set her mother no longer uses.

I like to give them something crystal. They will remember that YOU gave it to them everytime they see/use it. Pitchers are one of my favorites and an essential in entertaining. Bowls (serving or decorative) are nice also. Otherwise, go with something from her registry
