The Catholic Church believes that God does not recognize civil divorces.

"Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate." (Mark 10:9)

The Catholic divorcee needs to look into seeing if the first marriage can be invalidated.

The term "annulment" is a misnomer because the Church does not undo or erase a marriage bond.

Rather the Church issues declarations of nullity when it discovers that the parties were not truly joined by God and hence a full spiritual sacramental marriage as understood by the Church was not present.

Approach the appropriate person your in your parish who has been trained in the process. If you encounter difficulties, you may go directly to the diocese.

Be prayerful, honest and patient. It takes a while.

With love in Christ.

Yes, it's true. For a Catholic divorcee to be married again in a church ceremony done by a priest they would need to get their marraige annulled by the Catholic Church. Unless the first marraige wasn't performed as a Catholic marraige, in which case the church doesn't recognize it as valid.

Divorce is like a permanent separation for Catholics. I believe the person has to get an annullment. See the URL below.

Eric E's pastor, if he's Catholic, needs to be excommunicated! This is wrong. You don't make vows before God and then break them, and not expect God to have an opinion about it! Glad you're here Imac...

No!. When one is given a letter of divorcement he or she is free to marry again, but my advice is to not marry, but cherrish what you desire first and let the birds sing for awhile because it is fruitless if rushed.
