Most Americans who actively hate communism do not understand what it is. They equate it with dictatorship, which is easy to do as most communist countries have also been dictatorships.

However, communism is merely an economic system, not a political one. Capitalism is also an economic rather than political system. Americans tend to equate capitalism with democracy. However, history has proven that capitalism can co-exist quite nicely with dictatorship, as it has in many countries where it has been supported by American administrations.

So, while many Americans think they are opposing dictatorship by their opposition to communism, they are actually both tacitly and actively supporting dictatorships by their blind support for capitalist regimes, regardless of their political structure.

That communism as a political movement is banned in the United States only restricts the freedoms of the American people which they believe to have been guarranteed in the constitution.

Though many conservative readers will dismiss me as a communist for having written this, I am not and have never been a communist. I am a leftist, but that is a distinction they will likely not get.

Most Americans don't know what the true meaning of communism is, but were raised to believe that it is something evil, unfortunately because corrupt people were put in charge of many of those governments.

In theory, communism is a beautiful thing. This is how our cavemen started, they all shared the labor (hunting and gathering) and the women took care of each other's children and they shared the work as well, and they all benefited from the fruits of their labor. They all took care of each other.

But unfortunately all that came to an end when mankind developed greed, and unfortunately where there is greed, there is corruption, unfortunately communism cannot work in the real world, as proven by the former USSR. Even the chinese are turning away from their Communist principles in favor of Capitalism.

If we are to ever have a communist society, it would have to be with countless checks and balances, so that there would never be a Josef Stalin or a Fidel Castro in power. People who don't believe in that ideology should be able to leave, which is something I never understood why those communist leaders who force their people to live where they didn't want to live.

Personally, rather than a communist country, we should have a mixed capitalist/socialist society worldwide. Let those who are ambitious enough to pursue their dreams and work themselves to death, and let those who want to enjoy life a little more be able to do that, as we only live once and we never get that day back or live our life over and rectify our mistakes.

Dear average Joe communist,
You have no idea what communism is and how inhumane this system is unless you lived in one. I lived in a communist country and let me tell you you wouldn't have lasted a month in it. It was a big problem getting food, the houses had no heating, electricity was a problem, tv was like two hours a day and that was only to show propaganda, no freedom of speech, if you said something against the government you could get arrested.
So if America hates communism so much is probably because they wouldn't want to live in a system that doesn't respect human rights.
Just be glad you were born in a free country.
And yeah, the economical communist system - it doesn't work, it's has no real basis.

How come you don't understand the reason America hates communism???! Communism has to do with the self - ruling of the people, with common ownership; the pooling of men belongings... America seeks the exact opposite things; ruling the whole world, extinguishing every form of difference, imposing its way of life, thinking, acting to others... Do you know that Americans have already composed a Constitution for Cuba and their are waiting for Fidel to die so as to invade the country and implement it????
Anyway I'm glad you are a communist, I'm Greek and I vote for our Communist party; I'm a left winger but I can't say that I'm communist just because I believe that someone has to be a REAL Communist; and being a real is extremely difficult...

And to "Saddam Hussein"; you oversimplified the meaning of communism. You seem to know absolutely nothing about it... Go to a library and read about it, please.

Because, my friend, communism is a failed system. Marx was flawed in his reasoning. Once a person has absolute power over a society, he will not give it up for the equality of the masses. Even small scale "communist" systems before Marx coined the phrase, like the New Harmony experiments in Indiana, didn't work.

Everyone looks out for themselves first; society second. If you look at your own behavior, I think you'll find it's true in you too.

Now that doesn't mean we cannot be generous as a nation, and promote equal opportunity for people. However, we cannot collapse a society and bring a small group of people to power to try to get it.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Here endth the lesson.

If you are willfully a communist you either enjoy dictating your personal beliefs to others and making them live life to your rules or you enjoy living your life by someone dictating to you and making your decisions for you.

I don't think we hate the communist just communism. We can do that here because we are a free country. What happens to a communist who hates communism? I guess it ain't pretty.

first of all America is not a capitalist country it is a socialist country, and if you did not recognize this I'm not sure if you're clear on what communism is, it is the abolition of private property, all property is under state control, and those who hate it do so because, they like owning that which they have produced, a capitalist society is one which private property rights are upheld, A socialist society is one which the means of production are under operational control of private individuals but the state remains superior to all, redistributing wealth, setting interest rates, quotas, subsidies, and expropriating. We live in a socialist nation, and communism is despised because it wishes to strip the individual of the little property rights which they still possess. Research communism very carefully because those "dictators" are an inevitability under its system. And you wouldn't be surfing the net asking questions on yahoo answers in a communist country you'd be trying to survive.

How dare you imply any American wouldn't be happy to share their abundant wealth with the lower classes? They invented The Great Gatsby for Christ's sake---well, maybe not literally for Christ.
How could America provide the delicious foods of McDonalds, KFC and Burger King if they were communist? Not to mention all the multi-national, multi-million dollar companies they've got all around the world!
No, they don't hate communists, they just like being greedy- they're proud of it!

Ronald Reagan is hardly a good source. The man thought ketchup was a vegetable.

Anyway, Americans hate communism simply because Americans have been conditioned to do so. The link I provided does an okay job of describing anti-communism.

It's the natural progression of a liberal thinker.
The only problem is that Communism sounds good...but it never works because True communism takes over everything...it doesn't make everyone equal at all.
NO system works correctly forever but a Capitalist society will always last the longest.
