It's Israel vs. Hezbollah, not Lebanon per se. Hezbollah is a Syrian-Iranian backed Islamist organization based in Southern Lebanon that had been rocketing adjacent areas of Israel and had snatched a couple of Israeli soldiers, so Israil retaliated with measures that are supposed to cripple, at least, Hezbollah.

Neither side has much insight into the destructiveness of their various "measures," which is mostly tit for tat. The least insightful are the Arabs, who have, ever since the much resented founding of Israel, spewed anti-Jewish invective and fostered and committed vicious attacks on Jews and Israel, at one time trying to conquer it in a war they started. And having lost that, there is even more hatred [because they lost].

Even if things had not progressed to the current impossible point, there would be nothing that anyone could do about it, given the basic fact that Arabs just hate Jews and Israel and don't have the brains to realize that their behavior has brought all this on.

They also don't realize that Hezbollah likes it that Israel bombs and whatnot, as that increases and reinforces the hatred already abundant among Arabs and garners sympathy and support for anti-Israel militias - Hezbollah does not care, really, about the death and destuction, as it plays into their hands. I don't think Israel realizes this, either, but even if it did, what can they do about it? They have to defend themselves and they have to give some response, and the military option is all that is left to them.

Israel and Lebanon are not fighting; the conflict is between Israel and Hezbollah (a terrorist organization backed by Iran and Syria). Hezbollah is a proxy army set up solely to beat Israel around the head.

Lebanon abducted an Israeli soldier and demanded Israel release war criminals...I think 100 of them.

The world is tired of using diplomacy to deal with terorists.
Now that the Palestinians have what they wanted - statehood recognition. The Israelis are justified in protecting themselves.

You had to see THAT coming...thats why Arafat was stalling for so long. He knew once statehood was granted...he'd have to stop killing innocent people and act like a respectable politician.

Hezbollah - a 'terrorist' group in Lebanon - attacked Israel, started shooting missiles into Israelcrossed their border, killed a pair of human beings and took a soldier hostage. The reaction from Israel replace into to initiate attacking Hezbollah and Lebanon infrastructure, because Lebanon won't be able to or won't deliver their protection stress to deal with Hezbollah themselves. in short, Israel desperate if Lebanon won't attempt to unravel the challenge, they had do it for them. circulate Israel!
