MY boyfriend is installing a sink, and he says that the exisiting drain that comes from the wall is a metal drain and he needs to attach a PVC drain to the sink itself, How can he do it?
Also, he says that the two parts are offset about an inch horizontally.
Any ideas how to make my sink work? It's been 3 weeks without a bathroom sink!
Thank you

First your boyfriend is a "Goof". Secondly He does not HAVE to use PVC piping. The offset can be adjusted by using a longer or shorter tail piece. The trap arm can be lengthened or shortened for any other offset, do NOT use the flexible type traps they are not legal in most locations and tend to cause clogs. Also make sure he is using "lavatory drain parts" they should be 1 1/4" and can be metal. Do not use a universal trap. He can connect to the drain pipe with a "Fernco" coupling.

You don't mention if the two pipes are the same width all you need is joining coupling you can buy straight coupling but that wont help the gap but maybe as its only an inch you can flex the plastic one over to the metal one to tell you the truth plastic drainage is very cheap and it wouldn't be costly to replace the metal one.
If the plastic pipe is unflexable to meet the metal pipe you can can buy coupling that is slighty bent .
best thing is to get into your local diy store and see what they have that you can possibly use.
