Do they really give you a fair amount for the items you give them? I've never been to one before, so I'm a little curious.

If you are looking to make some money and don't have time for a garage sale, then a consignment shop could work for you. However, have you tried Ebay? I sell a lot of stuff on there. Also, donations are always good to a needy charity and you can claim it on your taxes later.

I think they are definitely worth it. I've gotten some really nice things from consignment shops, and a lot of people have commented on them. It depends on the consingment shop if they give you a good deal or not. Some places only take good high quality things, and others take, well, just about anything. But if you want to have a little fun exploring, you might find something really cool!

Of course there are scammers but most shops are fair.
Let's face it - they are there to make money so if they get a bad reputation they won't be in business much longer.
Bring in your stuff and see what they estimate it at . Typically they get 25% and you get a check a couple weeks later for the rest.

I hate to shop, so I don't go to consignment shops and/or thrift shops. I have a couple of triends who have gotten really good deals at consignment shops. They both love to shop, so the length of time it takes to find what you are looking for doesn't bother them.

I got typically 25 to 50%. One shop I had stuff in burned down, so I lost everything! I'm just out a few hundred bucks. No big deal!
