it all depends on the time of day & your actual day of travel. if you're patient (trolley only runs about every 15-20 min) then that might be for you. but if you want to be out of the heat and in an AC bus, then that's the better option for you. if you're doing multiple trips, (more than just to campus and back) then get the visitors 1 day pass. for $5 it gives you unlimited rides for 24 hrs. , or 2 day pass for $9...otherwise your trip will be $2 per ride! passes can be purchased online as well as currency exchanges around your hotel.

Bus is going to be the cheapest for you, unless you have a car. The Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, soldier Field, and the Adler Planetarium are located at the same place, so that saves alot of money.Just go (get there at 8 am, parking is cheaper), park, and walk to each building. Have fun

In the main corridor, use the els, they are fast and efficient for visitors and easy to figure out.

Don't miss the Art Institute - it's a really great museum.

For a break from the heat at Navy Pier, there's a small stained glass museum, that will get you cool.
