Why is it so hard for a female to find male pen pals that just want to be friends?

Even when their post says they just want friendship, if you have a mate they won't write back!

Men and women are different. Men typically value relationships differently than women. Heirarchy is important to men while inclusion tends to be important to women. This starts rather early - take a look at a playground scene:

The boys tend to gravitate toward games like dodgeball or tag; games in which there are very distinct winners and losers. When they chose people for teams, they choose according to their value as a player.

The girls tend to gravitate toward games like hopscotch and jumprope; games which do not have clear winners and losers. As a matter of fact, everyone is a winner just by participating. When they chose people for teams, they tend to choose according to their value as a friend.

So what does a girl bring to the penpal relationship? Initially it may be the same thing that the boy wants and brings, but as the relationship develops and gains in importance to both of them - she accords the relationship more value for its intrinsic worth while for him, it usually must 'do' something more to be accorded more value.

Because we're all horn-dogs at heart. If you're coming to the internet for friendship, there is no future in that. It's too anonymous. I'd suggest just concentrating around your own personal circle of friends.

Because a lot of us are the last of our family's children and we want to keep the family line from dying. But some of us men are willing to be friends, first. I know I am. Always have been.
