Algebra can be confusing. The rules are not so different from the rules you have been using in math all along. The most important rule to remember is to keep both sides of the equation equal, do to one side what you do to the other. Every thing builds on that. SOS math has a good site for algebra help, the link is: http://sosmath.com/algebra/algebra.html.
Go slowly, get a tutor you can relate to and just keep reworking the problems until you master them. Good luck..

Good observation! Yes, mathematics has its own language and it's one you have to learn from the basics, much as you learned to use English. The difference is that you weren't taught the rules of English before you could use it. You used it first, then went to school to learn the rules. Unfortunately, teachers and schools are hypnotized with teaching rules before performance in the incorrect belief that this will bring about more perfect performance. As a reformed language teacher, I know better. All I can tell you is the best to do is to find a tutor who can show you how to USE mathematics at the same time you're studying the rules in school.

I agree. I am without a bachelors degree because I can'd do Algebra. I have had tutors, extra help etc and still can not make heads nor tails of it
