wouldn't there be a better thing to bury with him? Most horses passionately hate spurs/crops/whips, but hey...if you want to do it then who cares if it's crazy?

Anything that means something to you, and helps you with the mourning process is not crazy. Ive burried favorite toys, and stuff like that with my deceast animals.
You do what helps you through the sad time. When you look at that spur, and know why the other one is gone you will look back on your old horse and remember the good times and you'll be able to tell people about him and keep his memory alive.
