Open up the remote control and you will see little switches that you can change the order of thus changing the code. Now you have to open up the controller that operates the system (usually on the ceiling of the garage). Cut off the power to the unit and unplug it before opening the unit. You will see the same little switches that you saw inside the hand held remote. You must match the code that you programed on the hand held remote exactly or it will not work. Viola!

What brands of opener and keypad do you have? Most quality openers these days use a programming/training button on the overhead unit to program the keypad and the remote controls. You can usually find this button near the location where the small antenna wire that hangs down attaches to the overhead case. If you have one, all that may be required is to press and release this button one time (don't hold it in), and then enter a new PIN on the keypad and hold down the Enter key. When it successfully programs, you should get some sign from the overhead unit, like flashing lights or a click.

If this doesn't fit what you have, then as others have said, look for the manufacturer's website.
