So that when you click on a link from your computer it knows which Browser to use to go to the Internet and open the webpage.

You might have a link in a Word Document... and not have an open browser.. so it will need to use one.

Because you've never called Microsoft, and told them that they don't need to add an internet browser to your copy of Windows, since you already have two.
