I have a lots of experience with riding. The weather where i live is not harsh, and it doesn't snow. The temperature may rise and lower between 45-100 degrees.

You don't need a turn out rug. Let the horses fur grow with the change in seasons.

i very rarely use any turnout rugs at all. IMHO they are more trouble that they are worth and may be a danger as well. it has been shown that long term use of a rug compacts the coat and may make the horse colder than not using one. they are not cheap and some horses delight is destroying them in short time. i have also known horses to get them caught on things which can prove interesting to say the least. about the only thing i use is fly sheet or rain cover at shows or a mud sheet in an attempt to keep a groomed horse clean. a good water proof rug can help during a period of freezing rain where there is no other shelter but that's about it for me

I like Weatherbeeta and Taka or Rambo.
I don't use then unless it is very cold(below 15 degrees) or a cold rain.Horses have a comfort zone of 25-60 degrees with a winter coat.I have a run in and they can come and go as they please.Even in snow your horse is fine without a blanket.A lot of times you will see a horse with snow in his back, and it is not melting. That is is because the horse is well insulated. For you I would go with a light weight sheet that is waterproof.Again, unless it is blowing cold rain(below 45 degrees) and provided your horse has proper shelter I wouldn't worry about blanketing,

I like rambo rubs. I would use a light sun resistant fly repellant sheet maybe.
