Depends on what State you live in. For me, in Las Vegas Nevada, my divorce was final within 4 weeks after I filed. But Nevada is known for quick divorces.
I think California makes you wait at least 6 months after you file before the divorce is final. Legal Seperation if you will.

I'm in the middle of a pro-se divorce, and I filed the paperwork myself.
I filed the papers on March 23rd, so the divorce should be final sometime this fall. This is a no contest divorce with no children or property.
If there are any children or if they have real estate, IRAs, etc, to divide, then GET A LAWYER.

So i guess it depends on how long it takes him to fill out the papers and file them. If there is property to be divided, or children involved, she will have to agree or disagree, to what he plans.
