I had a phone activated for my daughter in law and she did not pay the bill. The phone company did not notify me before charging off the bill and now my credit score is considerably less. I previously had perfect credit before this. When I spoke to the phone company about paying the bill they said they still would not remove the negative remark on my account.

First, get a copy of your credit from the three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion to see if it is on all three. Not all businesses report to all three. If it is and would like it removed/reviewed, the credit bureaus will do it for you.

Equifax: 800-685-1111 www.equifax.com
Experian: 800-682-7654 www.experian.com
TransUnion: 800-888-4213 www.transunion.com

I would recommend using the internet site to file a report. They are generally very fast. In this case, because you are a co-signer you may be stuck with it.

There's not a lot you can do about this, aside from making sure the account is current and shutting it down. This is the primary risk of signing a credit agreement for someone else, and this kind of arrangement often gets folks in trouble despite the best intentions. You may be able to contact the credit reporting bureaus and add a comment to that particular item on your credit file, but that's probably about all you can do in this case.

Change the phone company if they can't be nice with you and forgive one missed payment. Unfortunately you're at their mercy in this case, unless you want to go to court (and probably lose)
