Absolutely yes, and this is so funny you asked this. Yesterday at work one of my friends, age 62, pointed out a coworker who is a belly dancer. The 62 year old wanted to know if she could take lessons. This 62 year old also has recently taken up 4 wheel ATV and just entered her first pulling competition at a county fair, weight lifts, and goes "singles dancing" at least once a month.
53 is the perfect time to do some of the things you were too busy to do earlier on, and don't let anyone tell you it's time to pick up the crochete needles and sit back in your rocking chair.

Age is just a number. You're not any older than you feel you are inside. Try it! What've you got to lose? It's something new, and if you have the body and the moves, don't worry about what anyone else says. Your family, of all people, should support you. Ridicule only makes you feel self-conscious...but you shouldn't. I think it's very interesting to hear of someone your age wanting to take belly dancing. Good luck!

I think you should. As mentioned, excercise and also just a new hobby to take up. Go for it. Regardless what your family thinks and regardless if you DO have a belly or not

I would say to do it if you want to. I would check with your doctor first to make sure that it's okay, then just have fun. I would have loved to have my grandmother belly dancing!! When you start, your family will probably all want to watch you and be proud of you!!!
