it will play but u need to have proper software for that. u can use winamp 5 or higher version or else the latest media player also supports mp3 format.

You can't buy MP3 disks. If you bought it from a friend, or someone on the street, then it wasn't burned correctly (it most likely wasn't finalized). Go get your money back, or go buy a CD or DVD burner, which will play non-finalized discs.

Are you sure that your disc drive supports mp3 discs. Check your documentyation. If it does, then you need to update your media player

open iTunes put the disc in
it will show the disc then just play it

is it a real mp3 disk or is it an atrac3 disk? If it is an atrac3 disk you might need to download sonicstage to listen to the disk.

first try to play it if noy then it may be the case that the cd is not writed properly
