I am sure that people that say that don't mean to be hurtful. They don't know or understand that it is making you angry. What is your nationality? You should tell everyone, "Actually, I'm not mexican, I'm ________". Maybe that would help people associate a different nationality with you. I dated a guy one time that was like, pacific islander nationality or something (they sort of have darker skin) and people called him mexican sometimes also. It would aggravate him, but we found that the more he became pissed off about it, the more people did it. So, he stopped caring about it, or he would come back with smart remarks, like "Yeah, when I was in Mexico visiting my family last week...." stuff like that. Take it easy and know that they probably don't mean any harm.

If you have to tell someone something over a half dozen times are more, chances are, if they are not hard of hearing, they are doing on purpose. But why? Are they just ignorant or do they think you are not telling the truth?

You need to throw them there exact question right back at them.

So when they start saying "hey your mexican..." cut them off RIGHT THEN, and say (ONLY IF THEY ARE NOT MEXICAN) "I have just as much mexican as President Bush or you do" Do it to everyone and if that does NOT work...then ignore them and when they ask why, just say "Who are you talking? Because it is not me, I am not Mexican"

...Bonzo made a good point. If you are dressed like the "profiled" Mexican, and you don't like the feedback, change your clothing. That's what feedback is all about, anyway. It gives you an opportunity to regulate the way that you are perceived. Thank them, and move on. There's more interesting things to talk about in life, anyway. Maybe find a job that doesn't have so many jerks. You deserve better treatment.

I've heard from a lot of my hispanic friends that they feel that they are looked at differently since this whole immagration thing started. This may not help you right now, but be proud of who you are, if you have to tell people that you're not a certain race, they are probably not people that deserve your friendship. And above and beyond, ignorant people usually perish young, unless they become President.

who cares...El Che said that from the tip of Chile to the Rio Grande we are the same mestizo race...add a little African here and there...(of course I'm paraphrasing)...

so they call you Mexican! why would you let that bother you? I'm Puerto Rican and people call me Mexican every once in-a-while. And from Puerto Rican to Mexican that's a stretch. But we're all Latinos and were all brothers...

Explain to them calmly that like white people canbe from English German Scotish or Irish stock, Spanish people come from everywhere, nto just from Mexico and start calling them Irish Crackers. If that doesnt work, sue.

First of all, I think you need to find yourself a new job, amigo.

So what if you're a hispanic? Aint nothing to be ashamed of!

I'd come across a White Supremist trying to give a sistah a very bad time, oncet; and her hispanic boyfriend.

He tole the boyfriend to get f**k out off USA, and I said,OK, that's it, and quietly went and stood in front of the jerk.

At 6'4", with a 56"chest and 30"biceps, with me broken nose and all, and my badge, I aint the kinda of guy people want to get rude with, capisce?

So, I asked him, civil like, "You don't like foreigners, eh, Sir?"

And he said "Darn right, I don't. Why the f**k don't they go home?"

And I said to him"Well, do you want to tell me where you will be goin', Sir? Cause you sure don't look like a Native American to me!"

Now, that stumped the jerk and he kinda found it better to mosey along.

Long and short of all this is, amigo; ifn you've got a name that's Latin, like Antonio or sumpin, just introduce yourself as "Tony"

Ifn you're dark, don't let that worry you.

And don't feel sorry!

You've as much rights to live here, cause, ... hey, they sure as heck don't look like Native Americans to me!

My husband has the same problem, its either they think he's Mexican or Oriental. ( Just because he has black hair. ) Here, try this. Ask them how they like being prejudice and what do they think of the education thing? Or do they miss their brain? And one other hint, use Listerine, it keeps the onions off the breath. : )

Don't let 'em know it bothers you, in case they're trying to get a rise out of you.

Also, try wearing a shirt with a flag on it of your family's true heritage, if you're proud of it.
