action script is the scripting language designed and developed for FLASH and used to control the flash related actions and functions only..basically it's also derived from java script.action script by default is not supported by all browsers for that you need to install the shockwave flash plugin available at www.macromedia.com

but java script is a widley used client side scripting lanuages supported by almost all browsers...it's used for client side programming of a web page to handle all kinds of client side activities

When people talk about "programming languages" there are actually two different things they may be referring too. Most people don't realize this and so it's just ignorance, other times it is ambiguity.

When we talk about programming languages, we might mean the "language itself" - the syntax, the grammer, the reserved words, the rules for constructing a statement. The other part is the "pre-written" code, the methods, the library, the modules, the framework.

ActionScript and JavaScript are both the same language, but ActionScript has methods (functions, procedures) that are not available in JavaScript.

There's a C language a the Standard C library. printf() is not the C language, it's part of the Std. C library. C# is a langauge, .NET is a framework. Someone could write the JoeBob framework to use with C#. It's the Java language and JME, JEE and JSE frameworks.
