I have a 98 Ford contour. I have paid 600 dollars getting it "fixed". The other day it died in a busy intersection; when i tryed to start it in park it would tick tick tick, speedometer needle would go crazy and the oil, check engine light would come on. Someone gave me a jump start and it ran but kept dying. I had the battery replaced it runs a little better but it's been running rough at stoplights and then dies-oil battery check engine comes on. but it starts back up. I was thinking maybe the fuel pump or filter...or that it was the alternator.Should i put fuel injector fluid in my car? I'm a little frustrated with all this! Help would be appreciated! Thank you.

I have also noticed that when i am driving above 60mph it starts to shake like a car does when it needs new spark plugs. Hmmm....

They replaced the intake gaskets, fuel sensors and drilled a hole in the cacylic converter...to clean it out or relieve pressure.

I think your alternator is not charging and maintaing the battery. That is why your car was fine with a new battery. When it runs down it will do the same thing. If you dont have enough power to run your cars electrical system the other system such as ECM (computer) can't operate properly. Your alternator needs to maintain an output of 13.5 volts minimum to recharge the battery and run the electrical system.

I'd suggest to bring a car to a reputable garage for this, e.g Ford dealer and have them look at it. This way if it keeps having similar problem you can bring it back and ask them to refix it. From what you describe it sounds that the alternator is bad, have the charging system checked.
Don't just guess-replace all parts, have it diagnosed properly.
I'd think Ford dealer would charge you around $100 for diagnostic.

Sounds like the battery took care of your electrical problems but it sounds like you have dirty fuel injectors and the throttle body needs cleaning

Well, what was the $600.00 for? If it the same proble take it back to where you got it "fixed". It could be the fuel pump or a dirty filter.

That's the trouble with Fords; Anybody can afford to buy one, but no one can afford to own one. It sounds like you need a thorough tune-up and professional diagnosis.

Take it to a garage and have them put it on the computer to check it out. If you keep trying to guess it could break you.

The next thing I would look at is your alternator. There is not substitute for a good tune up, also.
