In the USA the main influence is Propaganda. All the media in the US is controlled by a handful of Skull and Bones boys bent on conquering the world for oil and profit. They carefully screen the news to make sure that only the things they want you to see appear on tv and radio and the newspapers.

People tend to vote for the person who they see most. Not voting for a person if they see them with sweat stains, because they think they might be deceiving. The person with the lowest blinking rate tends to win, people perceive people that blink more often to be untrustworthy. The economy, if it is doing well they will tend to vote the same. if it is not performing well they will most likely want a change in the leadership. Both sides will usually make up untrue statements and leak them to the press, by the time the truth comes out about the incorrect info the people have already formed personal opinions about the candidates. All media is biased one way or the other, left or right the main objective is the same for both to win. It is near to impossible to elect someone and know just how they will perform, many var ables apply. Just because they say there going to do one thing does not mean they will once they get elected. For the most part the main populous will vote for a candidate based solely political ties. I myself have no preference, I just try to sift through all the bull and cast my vote for whoever I believe to be the best choice not only for the United States but the world.

I have no answer to your question but I would like to know what would motivate people to start voting. We are very lucky if 60-70% of U.S. citizens vote in an election, yet 100% complain after the election. Go figure.
