Glas blocks are designed to allow slim re-inforcing slats to be inserted every few blocks to add strength. Particularly important for free standing. The re-inforcing bars do not show.

Lowes Home Improvement has a video tape you can purchase on installing glass block walls. That will give you an idea of the level of difficulty for this cool home improvement project. You can even add lights into your glass blocks! Framing with wood on the bottom and glass block on top would definetly be cheaper and probably a little safer.

I have a free standing glass brick wall in my bathroom... it has steel rods going up through the parts that are grouted so you can't see them. I is very strong and very safe... it's been there for 5 years now.

They now have interlocking glass bricks that you can buy. They also have thicker blocks and you can even have them custom made. If you want you can creat a stand one the bottom, like a seat to sit on. That will make it more stable.

Wouldn't it a bit dangerous to have glass in a bathroom. It's slippery and it could break ....
