i'm skewed to get a creative neeon. one option says it's direct line in (record music without using a PC). Does that mean if i connect it to my components, play a casette and record, it will do the job? HELP! tks!

Direct line-in is "old school" audio recording. You connect the audio out from a CD player, cassette player, or stereo to the line-in with a compatible cable, press record on the recording device and press play on the playback device. Voila! Recorded music.

Old style turntables required a pre-amplifier or a specially amplifying phono input on a receiver so would not work on a direct line-in but modern ones have build-in pre-amps which would allow this to work.

The new Creative Zen V Plus permits line-in recording and even detects song breaks to create individual tracks. (I'm not sure how the labelling of these tracks works and whether you do this on you device or with their Media Explorer software on your PC). Also, it looks like the files are compressed on the fly (encoded) on the Zen V Plus.

The Creative Zen Neeon seems to have similar functionality but may not put in automatic track breaks and it may not do the compression/encoding that the Zen V Plus does.

If you want specific details, go to the Creative Support pages and read the manuals for each player before you buy to make the most informed decision.

Direct line in is really not meaning to hook up the USB port to the player but it means that from a source like some kind of A/V amplifiers or other mp3 player,cd player etc where u can record it using a 3.5mm jack similar to the headphone jack but the other jack @ other end may be different and appropriate to creative neon,it is similar to recording thru mic except that we use a wire.To conclude this an old way but the sources are many and the audio is not that bad

Direct Line In on a MP3 Player is where you hook up the USB port to the computer for you to get your music from your music files.

Insane human beings won't be able to look after themselves. LSD? How weird and wonderful. An ex-boyfriend and that i had this communication many situations. My position became that one quite can't represent something which comes from a drug-brought about state as "creativity" -- considering the fact that this body of recommendations would properly be compared to a lab scientist artificially stimulating a particular spot on the mind of a mouse.... and then the mouse all started tap-dancing or something. it will be like a "kneejerk" reaction at the same time as the physician faucets your knee with that little rubber hammer. it is no longer "creativity" - it fairly is the spot on your mind reacting to the drug. My ex-boyfriend, of course, disagreed.

Direct line in could mean either where you connect your USB cable or it could mean the small port designed for a cable that attaches from a perphrial's headphone jack(such as a CD player) to your line in jack
