I believe myself that they should. I also believe it would make better citizens of the men and women within our community. I also think it should be compulsory when you enter the country from anywhere else around the world. You should also swear your allegiance to whichever country you live and work in and call home. This would help all countries and all citizens a lot better than having just a piece of card, which I must point out is useless because in this day and age anything can be forged. I believe if the persons are for real and want to get on in life and build better futures for themselves and their families then this would be a doddle 'a no problem situation' give me some feedback on this please

England should bring back national service to instil discipline. The majority of kids today have no respect for anybody or anything and know that they can behave as they like because the justice system is a joke. I'm just wondering what this country is going to be like in the next decade or so if things continue as they are now.

YES, they should bring back national service. Being in the forces instills discipline and many other attributes that seem to be missing from many of the young people around today. Self sufficiency is taught as well as team work, a sense of pride in one's country, a pride in oneself, acheivement. Its giving something back to the society that has just spent £'s and £'s and years on a basic education. I believe all youngsters, unless there are medical reasons of course, should do a year compulsory service to their country, wether it be in the form of conscription into the forces or community service, this should be done befioore a young person goes onto higher education. it would make them grow as individuals and would help erradicate this 'hoody' attitude.

If the forces is not a suitable platform for a service for youngsters, what about working within communities, improving environments, assisting health professionals, care homes, childrens homes, homeless hostels, all need workers. Streets need to be kept clean, if youngsters had to clean their own streets for 40 hours a week for no pay, they would think twice about damaging that area with litter and graffitti. Of course, it would also provide employemnt as soemone would need to be employed to watch over them, ensuring they do what they are specified to do within their role. If they fail to keep to the key performance indicators give, another year should be added to their service, up to them then how they perform

I can imagine alot of people to assume this would be a backwards move and the hippies would hate it but it is a definate must.

It doesn't have to mean military service either! Its so easy in this country for someone to leave school and go on the dole for years. They might get a job for a while, but because they are so used to not working, they just end up back on the dole again.

Yes, yes yes to national service. It would be a great thing and alot of people (the chavs themselves) would benefit greatly.

I wouldn't want to do it though ;)

National Service is not the answer. We have enough laws and sanctions to deal with out of control individuals.

The problem is the application of those laws and sanctions. Rehabilitation demonstrably does not work. Sentences are so lenient it only confirms that 'crime DOES pay'.

The Probation service has failed miserably as evidenced by the recent Home Office errors in releasing killers, rapists and violent individuals without any record of where they are in society.

The oft quoted phrase, 'WE ARE ALL HUMANS' ignores the differences in cultures. I will never subscribe to the belief in 'forced marriages' and 'honour killing'. Whatever happened to 'Human Rights'?

Nor will I tolerate a funeral pyre being erected and set ablaze in an open field in Britain. Crematorium do exactly the same job in a safe and effective manner.

The practise of female circumcision against the wishes of the child is also unacceptable.

Criminals subjected to amputations I would not accept either.

Yes, for all the obvious reasons, most of which have been covered here. One thing though that I remember from my friends going into national service was the PRIDE in their uniform when they came home on leave, and the RESPECT their peers gave them, whether they were servicemen or not. The only difference between then and now is that it should be compulsory for both males and females. I desparately wanted to go into the WRENS but my Army family was horrified and threatened to cut me off, and it wasn't considered 'nice' for women to go into the Army so it was stalemate. Hypocrites, lol.

I assume the people saying yes are over the actual rate in which they will have to join..ok, if we do have national service, it should be compulsory for all 18-50 year olds. Watch how the answers change if that is the notion..
Me? Im against it. Try forcing me into the armed service, pah, facists

Compulsory National Service would turn our highly professional armed services into an amateur organisation - I don't think that would be a good idea when they are being asked to carry out dangerous missions and enter war zones.
It also sounds a little bit fascist ?

The government should bring back national service
immediately. It would certainly remove the problems of
unsocial behaviour and teach these troublesome people how to behave in a civil way .

I don't think so, because I don't want to be dictated to any more than I already am.

As for joining the forces, I would rather die, it would totally contrevene my beliefs. If you want the people of Britain to learn skills and do something useful then schools should run humanitarian / environmental projects so that young people can help the poor or improve their surroundings.

Definitely, we should bring back the National Service so we'll form good generation of young people boys and girls because nowadays those young people don't have any moral and discipline their parents are struggle to educate their kids you can see it how they behave all over Great Britain and abroad as well drinking messing around you name it.....
