I know the worlds most tattooed man "The Leopard Man" has done this, he visits the closest town by kayak once a week for supplies. He lives on a yearly wage of one thousand dollars a year, which he earns from doing a few conventions around the world.

Don't be ridiculous. EVERYONE has thought of that at some low point in their lives. Some very seriously, some only half-heartedly. It's normal to be so disgusted or disillusioned with mankind in general at times that you just want to escape. Be the only person you have to come in contact with, and be totally in control of all input and interaction. Most of us get over it. Most of us couldn't make it work, and never seriously wanted to. There is the rare case of someone who has, but there aren't enough islands in the wild for us to all be alone on. I don't idealize their lifestyle, I pity them.

The Leopard Man is awesome.

Seriously though, humankind is gregarious by nature- we like to live in flocks. We pack ourselves into buildings and rooms together to exist with companions- it's just how we raised ourselves to be. I admire anyone who has the courage to break off from the flock and stand by themselves, but don't forget that you will be missed, loved, and awed always. I think earth needs you though- with a mind like yours, you could change the world. Or at least, the part of it that immediately surrounds you.

That sounds like my moms. She's always talkin about living off the land doing her writing in peace somewhere. But then she's even scared of mice and bugs - couldn't see her where there are any snakes or wild animals. :D

The only 'wild' islands left that I know of are not suitable for human life.

Unless you mean places like Vanuatu. [sp?] I actually know someone who did that.

Its always tempting to leave responsibilities behind. But society was formed on the co-operation of all its members.

I do for the past 10 years. But if I did..noone to feed my dogs, no one to remind my dad to turn off the gas after cooking, no one to feed the fish or no one to pay for my dad insurance. Good for me to leave but bad news to my old folks.

Yes I would do it. Because you can always come into civilization when you need a people fix.

I would love to own an island. I would be like having your own little world retreat.

I want to live in a society rather than an economy.

I've thought about it, but I would never actually do it. Its more like a fleeting thought of "oh, that would be really cool" but just not that realistic.
