Because Christmas has been commercialised to the point where more people recognise it for the green, serrated tree and the fat red man.

Sad how the media can sell even religion like that, but there you go. Besides, I believe the Christmas spirit is more important than the celebration itself- everyone forgives each other and shares the love for one day in the whole year, and whether people realise it or not, that's a wonderful thing. Presents are just a bonus to receive/a curse to shop for.

December 25th is not the birthday of Jesus. It is the DAY that we celebrate the birth of Jesus. The exact date is not known. As for the presents... it is the means to increase profits for businesses who exploit the holiday. It's not the giving of gifts once a year that's a problem, but that society has been brainwashed into believing that you HAVE to remember EVERYONE even the mail carrier and barber or hairdresser, who by the way, we pay for their services all year long and we should be the one getting the gift if anyone does, for helping to support them. Also the fact that one toy is not enough for our children, but they have a list of everything they want
and parents who think they have to make sure that they get it. So who is being honored or worshipped here?
Not Jesus. Most families I know don't even tell the Christmas story or discuss the real reason for the holiday.

Christmas isn't Jesus birthday: certainly as a results of fact the researches reveal Jesus PUH may be born 12 or 15 years in the previous Jesus birthday. Christmas is a pagan fest presented via Romans emperor Kostantino who have been converted to Christianity, yet as a results of fact the Senate replaced into pagan he tried to blended fests , pagan activities and christian fests.. so we've Christmas..

First off, it is not the actual date of Christ's birthday. The Roman Catholic Church introduced it as such when during the crusades, they took over an area that celebrated worshiping their solstice god, with the ritual so of tree decorating and exchanging gifts, in order to hope for a quick end to the cold winter, and an early beginning to spring.

Secondly, as everyone knows, the holiday has gotten more commercialized every year, where less and less is mentioned the issue of Christ's birth.

Thirdly, this is nothing new. God was constantly chastising Israel in the Old Testament for going through the motions of celebrating the festivals and rituals he commanded in the books of Exodus Leviticus, and later on gives a serious reminder of what they represented in Deuteronomy, but they doing so with their hearts far from him.

For the record, I am not a Jehovah's Witness!

Tupac's Fan,
I hate to bust your bubble, but Christmas isn't even close to Jesus' birthday. It is the day that sun-god worshipers celebrate the return of their god on the winter solstice. It was added to Christian beliefs, so that pagans could join the church and feel at home. Think I'm making this up? Go to the library, and check out The Council of Nicea, in 325 A.D. Same with Easter. Based on the annual worship of Ishtar, the fertility goddess.(eggs, bunnies, symbols of fertility). Ask your pastor, or priest why they celebrate them, then watch them fumble for an answer.

Christmas isn't just Jesus' birthday, it is the feast of the Incarnation, but that theological issue aside, the reason think it is all about presents is because that is what Christmas is like in our society so of course that is what people think it is.

Because everyone is so materialistic and all they care about is getting something. For all of you who are saying that Jesus wasn't born on December 25 you may be right. The exact date of Jesus's birth is not known. The 25th is a chance to celebrate the fact that Jesus had come to save us. The date doesn't really matter. The meaning of his birth is what matters.

Other people might think about presents but I don't. I always see it as the birthday of Jesus Christ and the best gift I will always give him is LOVE - my family, neighbors and everyone, if possible.

people have truely LOST the TRUE meaning of CHRISTmas. Yeah, maybe December 25 isn't the exact date Jesus Christ was born, no one knows the real date but it is a time to remember Jesus being born of a virgin to save our sins. No matter what you do. He came to save ALL of us.
