It means faster than a real minute. Everybody is in a hurry in NY. They don't ever have time to stop and smell the roses.

I've visited Hawaii several times, and know locals. In the Aloha State, when you order cable service, it will take 3 weeks before the guy comes to install it. In NYC, we expect it to be done the next day, if not the same day.

New Yorkers are impatient and expect things, people, meetings to be prompt and done faster than a minute. In a flash! We don't waste any time at all. This is one reason for people dying of heart attacks on their way to work on subways, railroads and escalators in NY. Living a New York minute is stressful. Mahalo for the aloha state (and its spirit).

It means a very very short amount of time. Life is so rushed in New York City that a minute passes by in lesss than a blink of an eye.

blink of an eye: a very short time (as the time it takes the eye blink or the heart to beat); "if I had the chance I'd do it in a flash" is what google search defines it as. They call it a "new york" minute because everything happens so Fast in NY.

I noticed when I lived in NY that everything is fast; rushed; hurried. I imagine that a New York minute means faster than anyone else's minute.

Quickly, right away. Similar to a "hot second."

Things move very fast in New York City.

A minute where many things can be accomplished because of the fast pace of the city.

Fast, less than 60 seconds, in a hurry, like most New Yorkers (City, that is, upstate is a whole 'nother world).

Its a very short period of time, because New Yorkers are perceived as being busier and working faster than the rest of us..
