dear friend,
to be very frank, 4 days of trip is too short to explore kerala
if you cannot extend your days,i suggest you one thing.
select the mood of your trip

if you are planning for a cultural exploration, you can start with a divine sunrise at cape comorin.
for that you can reach thiruvananthapuram(a.k.a. trivandrum) by air/road/rail from anywhere you are right now located now.
from thiruvananthapuram you can reach cape by taking a cab
visit the vivekananda rock at kanyakumari
on the way back to thiruvananthapuram, you can visit "padmanaabhapuram palace". its really beautiful.
at thiruvananthapuram, there is "padmanaabhaswamy temple"
its a huge temple with good artistical rock carvings over the walls

from there if you can visit "aranmula parthasarathy temple"
it is located at aranmula in pathanamthitta district.
the deity here is lord krishna who advises bhagavat geeta to arjuna
if you are going during the onam festival, the famous, traditional "snake boat race" is conducted here.

i recommend "sabarimala ayyappa temple".bt its not possible in a short trip.this temple is situated in dense jungle and need 41 days of rituals to be taken before visiting this temple.so include sabarimala in the next trip.

then if you move on to kochi(a.k.a. cochin) you can find the beautiful jewish sinagogues at mattancherry. do not forget to visit the place, fort cochin. its the first european township in india.
all buildings there are made in european architechture. and its not a new creative work of a commercial builder.
the township there is too old and too beautiful.
you can visit the bolgatty palace there at kochi.

guruvayoor temple is another divine location.it is located in thrissur district.the temple authorities look after a large number of elephants.do visit them.

watch a live kathakali performance; which can add a finishing touch to your tour-kerala-heritage .

if you are looking for a honey moon trip, i recommend one houseboat at "kumarakom back waters".its at alappuzha(a.k.a. alleppey) district.
its beautiful.you can select a one b-h-k (one bedroom-hall-kitchen) house boat.(two b-h-k option also available)
its nothing less than a star hotel. the interiors look like a traditional kerala house.
its a 22 hours trip.
they will take you on board at 11am and leave you back at 9am next day.you are assisted with a captain, who navigates the boat, a cook who will prepare south indian, northindian, chinese foods , and one attendant for your help.
you can also prepare food.bedrooms have attached bathrooms
there is tv,dvd player, refrigerator, microwave, carrom etc.
a small boat will also accompany which will take you through the narrow canals.if you want you can ask for a speed boat also. bt its chargeable extra.
this trip is equally enjoyable for families as well.take a 2 b-h-k boat.

munnar is another honeymoon destination.the hill town with tea estate will truly make you romantic.

periyar wild life santury is nearby.you can watch elephants, tigers and rare species of birds very close to you while boating through the periyar lake.

dnt miss out the sexy beaches of kovalam and cherai
kovalam is near to thiruvananathapuram and cherai is near by kochi. kovalam is bit more crowded than cherai.the energy levels are high at kovalam while at cherai you feel more private.

now i'm sure that you must have made up your mind to make your trip a longer one.

wish you a pleasant enjoyable trip.
any queries, you can contact me

First of all I would like to mention here is 4 days are nothing at all to visit such a wonderful place... have ever thought of why is it called "God's Own Country". There must be something special about this place. This is not a selling gimmick for Kerala infact it is really a place so vibrant it has earned itself this fame and name. It is one of the worlds top 10 places to see and is a SUPERBRAND. I would like to suggest you atleast 8 days 7 nights to get the feel of this place... wherever you are coming from either you can start from Cochin also known as Ernakulam (well connected by air, rail, surface) or from Trivandrum the capital ( well connected by air, rail and surface). Spend atleast 2 nights on Kovalam beach (any resorts 3/4/5 star all are there) or you con go little farther another 15 km to place known as Poovar. Then come down to Alleppey and have a Houseboat ride (must) for a day/night.. spend atleast another day in Kumarakom (both alleppey and kumarakom are backwater destinations).. Then move on to Thekkady (Periyar tiger resreve is here ) spend at least 1 night here... go around see thge spice plantations, coffee plantations, enter the forest... man there are so many things to make you carzy... then move on to Munnar and another 2 days highly recommended... feel the difference in this tea garden township... I am just telling you gonna fall in love... then come back to cochin and can manage to spend 1 day here... either in the city or near the beach (cherai) explore the city and go to the real Cochin (aka kochi) have a backwater ride... visit the legacies left behind by the dutch and the protuguese rulers... may be I think I have exceeded the days of your stay... but definitely you will see that whatever I have mentioned here will really be a experience... But only thing I would suggest is try not to go in January as it is the peak season and you wont be able to secure rooms even now also.. as these are the black out dates.. and moreover rates will be 5 times higher than now... still if you want to enjoy and spend money than there is no stopping.. if you need further details about the hotels or want to check what u will be able to get within you budget if you have any than mail me I would definitely would try to help you... till then happy dreamings regards Aarif
