it depends on what you consider rich. if you are a little boy you may consider 500 bucks rich but if you are an inconsiderate jerk that only cares about money and nothing else, then about 3 million.

Depends on what you call rich!! Is being rich having all the things that you really need?? Or is it having all the money so that you don't need for anything?? Studies show that the average American doesn't save all that much nowadays, and with the cost of necessities on the rise it makes this harder to accomplish. 401 k plans are nice only if you know how to invest. Events like 9/11 play a crucial role in that event as well as the war currently going now. Major world events affect the market so nowadays it isn't as stable as it once was. Your best bet is to stash $20 or more a week and watch it add up slowly. You could also try your hand at day trading. Perfect trades occur all the time, and that's how people make their money. Like when a major company buys out a smaller company, their stocks merge (at least for a day) until those of the smaller company sell out their stocks. Thus making this a perfect day trade. At least to me it does. I watched one company merge with another several years ago, and that company's stock grew 9 3/4 points in one day. The very next day it dropped 6 1/4 points. Luckily, I had bought in as many shares as I could the day before it went up, and sold out before it went back down. Your best bet is to speak with a financial ad visor and see what they suggest, as for each person's limits are different, and risks come with the market.

"Rich" is only a level on the social class scale. And the amount of money or cash you have doesn't necessarily make you rich. You can own real estate, stocks and bonds, other investments that can make you wealthy.
You can't really put a dollar amount on it and label yourself as Rich. In my opinion if you are financially stable and secure (pay rent, pay bills buy food and other necessities) then you can say you live a comfortable life.

Well.. are you asking some short of funny question? lets not talk about how much you can earn and define that you are in the rich category...
Frist, ask yourself what steps and action you have taken to become rich?

It depends on the lifestyle you want. If you're happy to stay home all the time and watch TV all day then you don't need much money to be happy. I want to be able to travel and see the world so I've calculated I'd need $4 million to be happy.

Money don't make you rich, it's the rich that makes money.
