Hey BM, please try to refrain from saying that the spark causes an explosion. When you have an explosion in the cylinder it causes KNOCK which is the same thing as slamming a sledge hammer on top of the piston. Your vehicle would not last very long if this was the case. When the spark plug fires it creates a wall of fire that starts at the spark plug and burns through the chamber in a controlled fashion. We can control this reaction by buying different octanes of gasoline.

Gas is drawn from the tank into the cylinders, where it's compressed by the piston. At optimum compression, the spark plug fires, causing the gas/oxygen mix to ignite in a small explosion, pushing the piston away. The movement of the pistons turns the crankshaft, which does everything from charging the battery, to turning the wheels.
